2009 Laura Dance Festival

aboriginal dance

Festival Dates: - Friday 19th - Sunday 21st June 2009.  Gates open at 8.00am

Getting There
From Cairns travelling north, the distance to the Festival site is approximately 330kms. This year the total amount of dirt road will be reduced to approx 5 kms. Therefore vehicle accessibility to the Festival has never been easier with a bitumen road nearly all the way.

Public Transport from Cairns
Countryroad Coachlines will be providing a limited return shuttle bus service from Cairns. Refer to their web-site ( www.countryroadcoachlines.com.au ) for details and cost.

Facilities At The Festival Site
Patrons attending the Festival need to be self-sufficient with their own camping equipment. There is no other accommodation available at the site.

There will be a sufficient amount of toilet & shower facilities available at the Site.

We recommend that people bring their own cooking facilities with them as there will a strictly limited amount of fire-pits available throughout the site.

Bore Water taps will be available throughout the site. We recommend that water be boiled before drinking. Bottled Water can be purchased on-site or bring-your-own. A limited amount of take-away food stalls will also be operating at the Festival.

Facilities & Services in Laura
Laura, located 14km north of the Festival site has camping & limited room accommodation available.

A range of general groceries supplies, EFTPOS facilities and fuels are available from either the Laura General Store or the Laura Roadhouse. There is also a Health Clinic and Hotel in Laura.

We highly recommend a visit to the Quinkan & Regional Cultural Centre, a world-class Interpretation Centre of Aboriginal Culture and the European heritage of Cape York (opened from 8.30am until 5.00pm every day over the Festival). Tours of the famous Quinkan Rock Art sites can also be booked through the Quinkan Centre.
